ABOUT US : Operations

JEC is organized into four (4) departments to include Production, Engineering, Quality Assurance and Finance and Administration. The Sales and Marketing group is located at the JAKA Center in Chino Roces Avenue Makati City. JEC operates a 2-hectare match manufacturing plant in Barangay Marcos in Magallanes, Agusan del Norte Caraga Region XIII. At present, the plant has an actual capacity of 600 cartons per day on a two-shift workload.

JAKA Equities Corporation has been a PS mark holder since 1980, being granted the privilege by the Bureau of Product standard of the Department of Trade and Industry. The PS mark signifies that the products produced by JEC meet or exceed the standards set by the BPS. The quality system of JEC is aligned with the ISO 9002 Standard while its products are manufactured in accordance with PNS 09-Part I: 2002 as indicated by the certificate it has received.

In the previous years, JEC was being operated with semi-automatic machines. In 2002, however JEC’s factory facilities were modernized as out modeled machineries were replaced. Two (2) automatic lines and additional equipment were installed to make the plant capable to produce different sizes of matches needed in the market as follows:

  1. Size 48 sticks – black or red match head
  2. Size 38 sticks – black or red match head
  3. Size 340 sticks (Household) – black or red match head
  4. AD matches – customer specified match head color
    •  Bantam size (25 sticks)
    •  Mini size (18 sticks)

A safety match of JEC is made of three (3) basic raw materials such as:

  1. Wood component – used in splints and outer boxes
  2. Paper based component – used in labels, inner and outer boxes, wrappers and cartons
  3. Chemical component – used in the impregnating solution, paste, paraffining, match head and friction paint compositions.

The wood component use the softwood variety and is supplied by sister company, the Casilayan Softwood and Development Company (CSDC) of Butuan City. The paper based components particularly the packaging materials are purchased locally while the blue match paper and, sometimes, chipboard are imported. Most of the chemical components are imported from Sweden, India, Germany, Korea, China, Malaysia and other countries. Except for CSDC, all suppliers shall be evaluated and shall pass the accreditation process to be listed in the preferred suppliers list.

Safety matches produced by JEC are exclusively distributed by the Marketing affiliates of the JAKA Group, the JAKA Distribution Inc. (JDI) and JEC Marketing. JEC brand was mostly sold in Visayas and Mindanao. However, recent marketing strategies included the Luzon area.
